A tribute to an angel!

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the news this morning that sweet Trin is now an angel in heaven.  We rejoice in the fact that Trin is no longer suffering, but we share in the pain that her family is going through as they grieve the loss of their daughter, sister, and niece.

It was just yesterday that we finished packing and sending out over 150 Christmas cards in Trin's honor to the children who will be spending Christmas in the very hospital that had provided so much wonderful care to this sweet angel.  It is really special for Trin's family to know that there will be so many kids receiving cards in Trin's honor from people across our nation and Canada this holiday season.  A very big thank you to each and every one of you who participated this month.  You are a blessing to many.

The following information was posted on Trin's Facebook page:

My Sweet Angel went to home to be with the Lord..fly high sweet angel..Mommy loves you forever and always!!

Even in heaven my sweet angel is helping those on Earth... my amazing daughter has donated her corneas so that others may see!

Thank you God for giving me this precious gift if only for a little while.

Thank you again for being the best and most selfless followers.

Crafting with kids is awesome!

Recently I returned to the classroom to make a couple of cards with a few students.  I must say that this was so much fun!  The students had a wonderful time and were so excited that their cards were going to be making a plane ride from California to Alabama where they will find their way to Flower's Hospital in time to greet the children who will be spending their time there for the holidays.

I think they did a fabulous job putting together the embellishments that were given to them to create these adorable cards!!!  They also each wrote a special message on the inside.  Thank you so much kids!  You were awesome!!

This is the card I showed them as an example, and below are the cards that they created!!

Have a fabulous day.

I Feel the Love Project- Nov./Dec. 2013

Honoring a past recipient by creating
cards for children who will be
spending Christmas in the very
hospital that is treating her!!

Trin
For those of you who are new to this site and project, Trin is an amazing 11 year old young lady who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January of 2012.  The I Feel the Love Project fell in love with this darling girl and honored her as the March 2012 recipient of our handcrafted cards.  We have been following her progress since then and providing medical updates from time to time.  The latest update provided on her Facebook page states that:
---Sweet Trin has been admitted to the hospital once again to receive platelets.  Her mother wrote that "this beautiful girl's platelets may be low but her spirit is high!"  Trin has had her ups and downs battling this brain tumor.  Trin has returned home from the hospital.

Look at the photo of this victory!  Trin dresses for school this October!!  This captures her fighting spirit!!
So with the holiday season upon us once more, we decided that we would send cards to the children spending the holiday at Flowers Hospital.  This is the hospital where Trin receives some of her treatments.  If she is feeling up to it, we are hopeful that she even be able to see some of the kids receive their cards.  We will be praying for this to happen.
If you would like to participate in this month's project, we are looking for Christmas/holiday cards for children.  These will be distributed to children spending the holiday in the hospital.  These will be signed cards, or if you would like to make multiple cards, we can have our staff sign them.  It is always fun to include the state or country where you are from.
We are allowing for an extra week this month's project as we want to collect as many cards as possible for the kids who will be spending Christmas in the hospital.  If you would like to be a part of this month's project:

All you need to do is:

I Feel the Love Project- October 2013

Creating cards for the elderly to celebrate Thanksgiving!
Chancellors Village- I Feel the Love Project - October 2013

Chancellors Village is a community within the Senior Lifestyle organization. By engaging a caring team of dedicated professionals, Senior Lifestyle is at the forefront of creating fulfilling lifestyles that enrich seniors' lives today and tomorrow.

They serve their residents with respect and dignity in a comfortable, enjoyable and safe community with opportunities to choose additional services according to need and personal preference.

They anticipate, listen, understand and respond to their residents' changing needs. In addition, they provide a support system and peace of mind in the confident knowledge that families' loved ones will be cared for with sensitivity, expertise and compassion.

As a resident of Chancellors Village, a hospitality-centered community, individuals find socially engaging and comforting lifestyle options that experts say are so important to healthy aging.

The I Feel the Love Project is happy to announce that we will be partnering with this amazing senior care facility by sending handcrafted Thanksgiving cards to their residents.  We are asking for those of you who would like to be a part of this wonderful opportunity to create a Thanksgiving card(s) to the address listed below by November 7th.

We are allowing for an extra week this month as there are 200 residents at Chancellors Village and we want to try our hardest to put a card in everyone's hand.  How amazing would that be?  Remember this time we need to sign our cards so that the recipient receives a warm greeting from someone they don't know.  If you send in multiple cards you don't have to sign all of them.  We have a group of individuals who would love to help you out with too! If you would like to be a part of this month's project:

We appreciate you!!

The I Feel the Love Project just can't thank you enough for all your continued love and support.  As the cards for the August project were boxed up to be sent off to all the SAFEHOME, it was once again a humbling experience to see all the beautiful gifts laid out before us.  We just wish you could share in the experience of seeing how much love goes in these boxes.  The recipients can feel it and are so appreciative.  They tell us in letters that we receive from them.

It is always special to receive cards from new crafters.  A special thank you to those of you who have sent in cards last month for the first time.  I believe that Ms. Angelique is one of those crafters.  Here are the cards we recieved from Ms. Angelique.

Simply beautiful and truly a blessing
for the people of SAFEHOME.

If you would like to join us this month by creating a handcrafted card for the I Feel the Love Project, we would love to have you.

I Feel the Love Project- September 2013

Lending a hand to the homeless by creating and sending handcrafted, unsigned birthday, encouragement, friendship, and blank cards to lift their spirits!

Hope Ministries has been serving those who are homeless in Des Moines and central Iowa since 1915. We are a Christ-centered, faith-based ministry that provides programs and services for homeless and hungry men, women and children. We are one of the largest non-denominational collaborative efforts in Iowa focused on homelessness and hunger issues. We reach out to the unsheltered and displaced by offering food, clothing, shelter and support through emergency and long-term recovery services.
I Feel the Love Project September 2013
  • Hope Ministries provides a long-term comprehensive continuum of care program for homeless and displaced men, women and children.
  • Hope Ministries provides the largest number of emergency and recovery beds for the homeless in Central Iowa.
  • Our Bethel Mission facility is the largest emergency shelter for homeless men in Iowa, providing 108 beds.
  • Our Door of Faith facility provides 102 beds for long-term residential and life recovery for homeless and displaced men.

  • Our Hope Family Center is a 48-bed facility providing long-term residential and life recovery for homeless and displaced mothers and their children.
  • Hope Ministries' Hope Café provides three free meals a day year round to homeless and impoverished men, women and children from the community.
  • Our King's Closet program provides voucher privileges to 14 area social service agencies to refer clients, and to churches to refer members, for free clothing at our Hope Bargain Center.
  • Our Hope on the Streets outreach program involves staff and volunteers (mobile outreach teams) seeking to identify and help the homeless on the streets of downtown Des Moines and in the skywalks. Our Service and Mission (SAM) Teams involved more than 120 churches and business volunteer groups in 2008 reaching out to the homeless living in remote wooded tent camp sites throughout the metropolitan area.
We will be sending these unsigned birthday, encouragement, friendship, and blank cards to Hope Ministries so that they can keep them on hand for their residents.  If you would like to be a part of this month's project:

Birthday Cards for a Cause

If you haven't heard already, the I feel the Love Project is sending unsigned birthday cards to SAFEHOME for the month of August.

SAFEHOME is an organization that provides support for survivors of domestic violence in Kansas City, Kansas.  These birthday cards will be kept on hand for those staying at the SAFEHOME women's shelter to use when their moms, brothers or sisters have a birthday.  They will be free and we feel a blessing from our crafting community.  To learn more about this month's project click HERE.  I do hope you will join us for this special project.

My card included the IFTL Birthday Bear DS from Papercraftingworld.com (PCW). Ms. Melin is offering this DS for just 99¢.

I decided to alter the image just a bit.  I used Photoshop to erase the strings from the balloon.  I then refilled the brown ink in the arms.  Of course you can see that I changed all the colors of the balloons so that they would match the paper that I selected for my special card.

By editing this digi stamp in photoshop, you can see how it completely changes the look. If you click on the photo you can see that I even added little polka dots to the balloons.  Painting/editing in Photoshop is really fun.  I left the strings off all together because I wanted to use real wire for my card.

There are other ways to also make the digi stamp pop a bit.  As you can see, the edges of the stamp are inked a bit darker than the paper.  The cute little bear also has rosy inked cheeks and a bow in HER hair!!  This digi stamp is paired with the "It's your birthday" sentiment from the Birthday Bash Cricut cartridge.  This card is ready to be sent to the shelter.  I will be making more this month and like I said before, I hope you will as well.  Spread the word!  You know how much I love spreading the love one card at a time.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a fabulous day!

I Feel the Love Project August 2013

This month the I Feel the Love Project is honored to draw attention to the issue of domestic violence.  As long as one person is suffering from domestic violence, that is one too many.  We at the I Feel the Love Project are rallying around domestic violence victims and their children this month by designing and creating unsigned birthday cards that will be sent to the SAFEHOME shelter for domestic violence survivors.

About SAFEHOME: SAFEHOMES's mission is to break the cycle of violence and partner abuse for victims and their children by providing shelter, advocacy, counseling, and prevention education.

SAFEHOME’s shelter offers a confidential, safe and healing atmosphere.  Every year, more than 350 women and children find safety, help and hope at SAFEHOME’s shelter. SAFEHOME’s shelter offers safe, supportive and accessible shelter accommodations to women and children.

    • Meals are provided
    • Clothing and other personal items are available if necessary
    • Counseling for adults and children
    • Housing Assistance
    • Educational and Employment Assistance
    • Court and Legal Supportive Services
    • Links to Community and Outreach Resources

Most rooms are of universal design, with two bedrooms specifically adapted for persons with physical disabilities.

Children are also victims of domestic violence. They may exhibit fear, anxiety, depression, anger and other overwhelming emotions. At any given time, 50% or more of shelter residents are under the age of 17. SAFEHOME staff are trained and experienced in dealing with trauma in children.  Services for children include: children and family advocacy, counseling care, the children’s center, child-friendly environment, outdoor playground, computer lab, child-friendly meals.
