A Call to Action

My 18th Birthday

In the past several days there has been so much tragic news.  Yesterday was my 18th birthday and although I had a wonderful day I was still very much aware of how many of my fellow Americans were suffering from several horrible events.  My heart and prayers go out to all those who lives have been forever changed by the tragic events of the past few days.  My hope is that many will rally around you and lift you up in prayer as well.

In light of the current bad news that is all around us today, now more than ever is the time to do something positive for someone.  Please consider spending just a few moments to create a card for this month's I Feel the Love Project family.

We aren't looking for crafters with blogs or only those who have been crafting for years.  We are looking for people with big  hearts and a compassion for others. It is the message that matters!  Please help spread the word about this project.  It really does feel good to do for others.  I think we can all use some positive feelings right now.

Thank you so much.  It would be the best birthday present ever to watch the cards roll in.

A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Korrine.  We share a birthday.  Korrine would have been 19.  She was our Nov./Dec. 2011 IFTL Project In Loving Memory card recipient.  We collected cards for the children's hospital that treated her and delivered them at Christmas.

Thank you for stopping by.

Little Prince Blog Hop - Day 3

Homespun Elegance Prince Blog Hop

Welcome to Day 3 of the Little Prince Blog Hop.  If you found your way from Jillian's blog you are at the right stop.  If not, you may head back to the beginning to Home Spun Elegance so you don't miss any of the fabulous projects inspired by "Boys" today.
k
The inspiration for my project came from two precious boys Ryan and Kyle.  Very recently they lost their father to cancer and they are currently dealing with this loss.  I learned that one of the things that he loved to do with his family was take them to the beach.

I asked his wife, Debbie, if she could send me a photo of each of the boys with their dad at the beach.

Below you can see what I did with these photos.

This decorated frame came together with the help of the Cameo cutting machine.  All of the letters were welded and cut as connected words, first in a dark blue color and then as a brown offset (shadow).  Once the two colors were glued together, the edges were inked with a brown ink to pop the color a bit.  The umbrella was drawn by hand and cut out on the Cameo as well.

The photo itself was double matted first with a tan color slightly bigger than the photo and then with a light blue to tie into the ocean theme.  Once all the pieces were ready, the entire piece was assembled

This decorated frame came together with the help of both the Cameo and the Cricut cutting machines.  Once again all of the letters were welded and cut as connected words, this time in brown and then as a blue offset (shadow).  Once the two colors were glued together, the edges were inked with a brown ink to pop the color a bit.  The Paper Dolls Teen Scene Cricut cartridge (page 36) was used to cut out the beach ball.

The photo itself was double matted first with a tan color slightly bigger than the photo and then with a light blue to tie into the ocean theme.  Once all the pieces were ready, the entire piece was assembled.

The shells were hot glued to the frame for the final touch. If you would like to make a project for this family I would appreciate it very much!  They are the April recipients of the I Feel the Love Project. For more information on this cards for causes project, CLICK HERE.

I Feel the Love Project- April 2013

The Butcher Family
Ryan (11), Ed, Ally (5), Debbie, Mady (3), and Kyle (9)

This is Ed's story:
In May of 2012, the Butcher family received the news that no family wants to hear.  Ed, husband and father to four young children had cancer.  He was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and lost his hard-fought battle on February 24, 2013.  Some of you may know Debbie as she is a member of our crafting community.  Debbie is a former member of the Cooking with Cricut Design Team where she shared her talents during the Fall term of 2010.  You can find her work on her blog at Workin' Scrappin' Mom of 4.

It is my honor and privilege to ask my fellow crafters and anyone who reads this blog to join me in sending cards to Debbie and her children for the month of April.

These can be individual cards for the kids:
Ryan (11), Kyle (9)

 Ally (5)
 Mady (3)
 or for
Debbie

They can also be cards for the entire family.
It is completely up to you.
